MOVING CHECKLIST Now the job is done & your home is sold. Before you know it, it will be time to move. Wait until your home has been appraised before you start packing. Typically that should take place within two weeks of the buyer applying for their mortgage. In the meantime, review the following: SEND CHANGE OF ADDRESSES * Post Office * Charge Accounts and Credit Card Accounts * Friends & Relatives * Magazine subscriptions * Children's schools * Health care providers * Other insurance companies - auto, life, disability, etc. * Driver's licences, auto registration * Clubs & organizations you belong to * Banks INTERVIEW MOVING COMPANIES * Per hour cost for how many movers * Estimate of time to complete job * Total cost estimate * Are they insured, any limitations * How much notice do they need to reserve date CHANGE OF UTILITIES - when you have a confirmed closing date, coordinated with purchaser * Final readings, gas, electric, water, cable, phone, internet provider MOVING DAY * Empty fidge & freezer and clean * Carry currency, jewelry, documents yourself * Plan for child & pet care * Double check closets, drawers, and shelves (to be sure they are empty). * Leave keys, garage door openers, appliance manuals, any neighborhood information you might have for the new owners in a kitchen drawer.
